DSME bags drillship order from Atwood
South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) won an order from Atwood Oceanics to build a third ultra-deepwater drillship valued at approximately $635m, Seatrade Asia online reports.
The drillship Atwood Admiral is slated to be delivered by 31 March 2015, becoming the 16th offshore drilling unit owned by Atwood Oceanics.
The design of Atwood Admiral will be identical to the previously ordered Atwood Advantage and Atwood Achiever, where all three are DP3 capable and can operate in water depths up to 12,000 feet and drill to a depth of up to 40,000 feet.
In connection with the order, Atwood Oceanics also has an option to construct a fourth ultra-deepwater drillship at a similar cost with an expected delivery in December 2015, which requires commitment by 30 June 2013 with DSME.
