Ferry service impacted by Hurricane Sandy

In the wake of the devastating impact of Hurricane Sandy, Staten Island Ferry service remains suspended until further notice, according to a tweet by New York City Department of Transportation. In a Twitter post, NYCDOT said it was working hard to restore service, MarineLog reports.

The South Ferry Station, which connects subway commuters to the Ferry Terminal, remains flooded.

Meanwhile, NY Waterway resumed limited service on its commuter ferries. It restarted service from Port Imperial, Lincoln Harbor, North Hoboken and Paulus Hook in New Jersey to Midtown Manhattan, as well as Port Imperial, Port Imperial and North Hoboken to the World Financial Center.

Its East River Ferry service, however, will remain closed on October 31st due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy. “We are continuing to work with the City of New York to get the East River ferry system up and running as soon as possible, with a goal of being up and running within the next couple of days,” said NY Waterway.

NY Waterway said its terminals at Liberty Harbor and Port Liberte sustained siginificant damage.
