CTSP box traffic soars 4.5 times, to 227,100 TEUs

Container throughput at CJSC Container Terminal St. Petersburg (CTSP) for the first nine months of 2012 surged by 4.5 times from the same period a year ago, to 227,152 TEUs, the company press release said.

Handling of export containers in January-September totaled 112,184 TEUs (up 3.7 times), of import containers - 114,968 TEUs (an increase of 5.8 times).

September was a record month as the stevedore has handled 34,682 twenty foot equivalent units, the largest monthly container volume since the terminal inauguration.

The company has increased the facility’s checkpoint capacity to 1,800 vehicles a day, and commenced fabrication and construction works to expand the area of customs inspection post. In addition, the stevedore has finalized the terminal completed the design of a new office building for cargo owners.

Year-to-date, the terminal has handled 250 container ships with the average turnover per vessel at 908 TEUs.

CJSC Container Terminal St. Petersburg is a new terminal for containers transshipment based on territory of Fourth Cargo Area of Big Port St. Petersburg encompassing 32 hectares and a capacity of up to 500,000 TEUs. The terminal specializes in handling all types of containerized exports / imports, including reefer containers. The facility is one of the key projects of UCL Port’s expansion project – a stevedoring division of international transportation group UCL Holding, comprising Sea Port Saint-Petersburg and Multipurpose Transshipment Terminal in Russia’s North-West, as well as Tuapse and Taganrog ports in the country’s southern region.
