Ilyichevsk port throughput rises 8.4 percent in Jan-Oct

Freight traffic at state-owned Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk in January-October 2012 rose by 8.4% compared to the same period of 2011 and reached 11,918,000 tons, the company press release said.

In the reporting period, the port handled 4,505,000 tons of general cargoes, 1,384,000 tons of liquid bulk and 6,029,000 tons of dry bulk cargo. Grain shipments through the port soared by 297% from a year earlier, edible oil volume jumped by 146%, coal and iron exports leaped 315% and 102%, respectively.

In October, the port’s terminals transshipped 1,237,000 tons of cargo, including 349,000 tons of general cargo, 129,000 tons of liquid bulk and 759,000 tons of dry bulk cargo.

During the ten-month period Ilyichevsk port handled 1,420 vessels and 126,488 railcars.

"This high performance result was achieved through the coordinated work of all services of the port. I am sure with such a rate and quality of cargo handling we will significantly improve our annual production figures for the remaining two months of the year," commented the October results the port’s chief Alexander Grigorashenko.

State-owned Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk (Ilyichevsk) ranks among Ukraine’s top 4 seaports. The Port of Ilyichevsk encompasses 346 ha, 6km of waterfront with 29 berths. Its handling and warehouse facilities enable import/export freight flows of over 30 million tons a year. Since 2007 the port is able to handle simultaneously three ocean-going 5,000teu container ships with length of 300m.
