Cargotec has secured a deal to supply eight Kalmar terminal tractors to Klasco, the biggest operator in the port of Klaipeda, Lithuania. The units, two TR618i and six TRL618i tractors, will be used for RoRo operations, semitrailers and gooseneck/roll trailer operations from and to vessels. The TR618i model has been chosen to handle the most heavy and complicated cargo, whereas the six TRL618i units are intended for more common cargo. The machines are expected for delivery at the end of 2012. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2012 third quarter order intake
Port operator Klasco has a long track record of confidence in Cargotec as supplier of equipment. A good relationship and reliable service are behind this repeat order, which will add a maximum of eight Kalmar terminal tractors to Klasco's extensive fleet that includes six Kalmar TRX182i terminal tractors, one Kalmar DRF450 reachstacker and 21 Kalmar forklifts (ranging from 16 up to 32 tons). Audrius Pauža, Klasco's Managing Director, recognises the benefits of the new Kalmar equipment, "we are delighted with the latest improvements in the design of Kalmar machines."
The port of Klaipeda is one of the few ice-free ports in northern Europe and Lithuania's main transport hub. It connects sea, land and railway routes from East to West and is one of the most important ports in the Baltic Sea. The port's annual capacity is 45 million tons, accounting for 4.5% of the Republic of Lithuania's GDP. Klasco handles a third of all cargo at the port of Klaipeda and owns six liquid, bulk and general cargo terminals. It has a capacity of over 13 million tons of cargo. The company can handle the biggest vessels entering Klaipeda port, at 14-metre deep berths.
The TR618i and TRL618i models form part of the icon generation of terminals tractors, which represents one step further towards the i-series. These terminal tractors include innovative features such as CAN-BUS controls (an advanced technology only provided by Cargotec), Volvo TAD750VE and Sisu Diesel 74CTA engines (the latest EU-stage 3A engines), Dana RTE15822 automatic gear control transmission, and numerous improvements in lifetime, durability and operator comfort.
