The Far Eastern branch of the Russian Emergencies Ministry has taken delivery of a new rescue tug, the regional ministry said. The Kaliningradets tug had successfully passed the Northern Sea Route and arrived in Nakhodka on November 8th.
The vessel is designed to rescue stricken ships and people, to provide first aid and towing of ships and boats, and, most important, is able to carry out underwater works at depths of 50 meters.
The tug is equipped decompression chamber, special diving equipment, a skimmer, tanks to pump spilled oils, and oil containment booms. The Kaliningradets is also fit for firefighting. The tug features enhanced ice-class hull, which enables the ship to operate in the 1-meter-thick ice. Besides, the vessel is able to work without refueling for over 30 days.
