Port Vanino ten-month cargo volumes up 4.3 percent

Cargo traffic at the Port of Vanino in January-October 2012 totaled 16.6 tons, a 4.3-percent growth from the same period a year before, the Russian Association of Sea Ports (ASOP) report said.

Port Vanino is the largest transport hub in the Khabarovsk Territory. It is located on the northwest shore of the Bay of Vanino in the Tatar Strait and is the endpoint of the Baikal-Amur Railway. The port remains navigable all year round. From January to March icebreakers provide pilotage service for ships calling at the port. The port handles cargoes shipped to the Russian North, as well as outbound and inbound commodities shipped to / from Japan, Australia, the USA, Korea, China, etc.
