The Port of Tauranga has ordered three straddle carriers from Liebherr Container Cranes as the New Zealand port continues in its attempts to boost both capacity and productivity, Port Technology reports.
The three SC350T straddle carriers, scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2013, are capable of stacking one over two high and will be fitted with a 50t Stinis twin lift spreader, according to Liebherr.
“The Port of Tauranga has operated Liebherr cranes since the 70’s and they are well aware of the performance and reliability associated with our products,” said Liebherr Container Cranes, Mobile Product Manager, Paul Bolger.
“It is a pleasure to supply Liebherr straddle carriers to help bring increased capacity and productivity in view of the recent surge in the port’s handling volumes.”
The Port of Tauranga already operates five Liebherr ship-to-shore cranes with two more Liebherr super post-Panamax cranes due at the port in 2013 and 2014.
