Severnaya Verf on November 14, held a ceremonial keel-laying for the ELBRUS, a lead vessel of a series of dry cargo / ammunition ships of Project 23120 ordered by the Russian Ministry of Defense, the shipyard press service said.
Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Viktor Chirkov and General Director of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping Mikhail Aivazov, who attended the ceremony, placed a commemorative plaque under the keel block.
An earlier report said that Severnaya Verf had won an open competitive tender on the government contract and was awarded the contract for three logistics ships of enhanced ice class ARC4 for the Defense Ministry.
In accordance with existing contracts Severnaya Verf is to build and deliver until 2020 to the Russian Navy six frigates of Project 22350 and six corvettes projects 20380 and 20385, and a communications ship of Project 18280.
