Cargo shipments through JSC Vostochny Port in January-October 2012 rose 7.5% year-on-year to 15,011,700 tons, the stevedoring company press release said.
In October OJSC Vostochny Port saw 1,616,900 tons, an increase of 25% compared with the same period a year earlier.
The major cargo handled by the stevedore is stone coal mined in Russia’s Kuzbass. Currently, the commodity accounts for about 98% of the total traffic, coastal coal traffic - for 1.8% and other cargoes make up the rest 0.2%.
JSC Vostochny Port is the major stevedore company in the Russian Far East operating at the port of Vostochny, the largest Russian deep-sea port in the Far East. The company specializes in handling of exported coal using the conveyor equipment. The company’s assets include a Specialized Coal Terminal (PPK-3) and Universal Transshipment Terminal (PPK-1) for handling general and bulk cargoes (coal, coke, clinker, iron ore, timber, etc.) as well as metals, pulp, aluminum, chemical, heavy-lift and oversized cargo. The ten-month coal throughput at PPK-3 touched the volume of 11,965,800 tons (+4.7%). In October, the terminal exported 1,274,100 tons of coal (+18.3%).
In January-October, cargo shipments through PPK-1 totaled 3,046,000 tons (+20.2%). In October the facility handled 342,800 tons of different cargoes.
