The Board of the Freeport of Riga has supported the building of a modern yachting facility on the port's property in Kipsala, near the Vansu Bridge, the Riga City Council told LETA. The project is valued about LVL 1.3 million, the Baltic Cource reports.
According to the port's concept, a floating pontoon construction will be built to replace the current wooden pier. The CD pier, which has fallen into disrepair, will be fully renovated. When building the complex, the experience of Polish and German ports will be taken into account.
The Freeport of Riga will ensure the procurement and construction of the complex, the Riga City Council – the project's infrastructure and communications.
Upon completion of the project, Riga will be able to welcome not only a few individual yachts but also international yachting regattas. The Riga City Council wants to popularize yachting tourism, providing yachting enthusiasts with an opportunity to expand their geographical borders.
