Mormugao Port to introduce special goods train from Desur

A special goods train will be operated from Desur, near Belgaum city, to Mormugao Port thrice a month, depending on the availability of containers. This was announced by Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) Deputy Chairman Mr. Biplav Kumar here recently, Daily Shipping Times reports.

The Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI), at an interaction with a team of senior officials of the MPT here had stressed the need to introduce a separate train from Desur to the port only for containers. This was one of the three suggestions the BCCI placed before the team.

Mr. Biplav Kumar and BCCI Chairman Mr. Satish Tendolkar were among the Office-Bearers present.According to BCCI Joint Secretary Mr. Venkatesh Sarnobat, the MPT authorities were here as they were looking forward to boost movement of goods from Belgaum region, which is the second largest exporter after Bangalore in Karnataka.

During the discussion, the BCCI also stressed the need for the MPT to organize a trade meet to create awareness on exports and facilities available at the port. The BCCI also suggested opening of a single window counter for smooth functioning of export trade and transport of goods from Belgaum region to Goa.

After holding talks with directors of the MPT, Mr. Biplav Kumar made the announced on the special train. BCCI and MPT officials decided to hold another round of meeting involving exporters in the city next month.
