The Union of Marine Insurers (UMI) held in Moscow, the 2nd Annual Conference "Marine Insurance in Russia 2012". PortNews was a technical organizer of the event.
The conference convened about 100 participants, representatives of insurance, survey, legal and shipping companies. The conference as also attended by officials of the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
The participants addressed the issues of international marine insurance market development and the possibility of a more harmonious integration of Russian insurance companies after Russia's WTO accession. Among the issues that aroused heated debates was the introduction of compulsory insurance in Russia for inland shipping and responsibility of the passenger vessels owners.
The Organizing Committee hopes that the views of speakers, moderators and participants will influence further legislative work as the UMI and Russian authorities.
