The Russian Government has published on its website an order dated November 19, 2012, on the extension of the sea port of Ust-Luga.
The document, signed by the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, initiates the construction at the port of Ust-Luga of a terminal for handling liquified petroleum gas and light oil products with projected capacity of 4.0 million tons (including - 1.5 mln tons of LPG, 2, 5 mln mt - light oil products). The project also includes the creation of a support fleet base.
Russian Transportation Ministry was authorized within a three-month period to submit a draft project on changes to the port’s boundaries.
Port of Ust-Luga is located nearly on Russia’s border with the EU. The port has a 3.7-km approach canal with a depth of 16 m. Ust-Luga also plans to have the second approach canal completed by the end of this year. The port will become the only Russian port on the Baltic Sea capable of accommodating 75,000dwt bulkers and 120,000dwt tankers.
