Crops import via Krasnodar Krai ports down 1.5 times

Shipments of crops through the ports based in the Russian southern region Krasnodarsky Territory (Krai) in January-October 2012 plummeted by 1.5 times from last year’s numbers, to 57,000 tons, a Rosselkhoznadzor report said. The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Krasnodarsky Krai, Adygeya) said the volume includes grain crops, leguminous plants and oilseeds, which account for 20.5% of all crops imports, cereal products make up 74.4%, animal feed and components for its production - 5.1%.

Rice remains the major product of all grain crops imported to Russia. Russia has imported 42,400 tons of rice, a nearly 1.5 times spike from a year earlier or 74.4% of total imports.

In 2011, there were nine countries that imported rice to Russia. Currently, there are 12 importers. New importers are India and Paraguay. India is leading with 14,000 tons of rice, or one third of the total rice imports.

Rosselkhoznadzor said it had prevented the import of 600 tons of low quality and dangerous products from Thailand, Pakistan, Cambodia, Myanmar, India, Myanmar and Ethiopia.
