China-based Nantong Mingde Heavy Industry bagged an order for up to eight 33,000 dwt stainless steel chemical tankers from a Norwegian owner, Seatrade Asia online reports.
The contract, signed on Monday, was for a firm order of two chemical tankers plus an option for six additional units for J.O. Invest. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Mingde said it will optimise the design of the chemical tankers to reap operational efficiency and boost the environmental friendliness capabilities. It added that fuel consumption of the tankers will be reduced by about 30%.
