Flag raising ceremony on Caspian Flotilla’s frigate Dagestan

A handover and flag-hoisting ceremony was held today, November 28 in Makhachkala seaport on board the Gepard-class stealth frigate “Dagestan.” The warship was built at Zelenodolsk Shipyard (member of AK BARS HOLDING), the shipbuilding firm press release said.

The Naval flag raising ceremony was attended by President of the Republic of Dagestan Magomedsalam Magomedov, the Caspian Flotilla Commander, R-Adm Sergei Alekminsky, AK BARS Holding CEO Ivan Egorov, Zelenodolsk Shipyard’s CEO Renat Mistakhov.
Now, this is the second frigate of Project 11661K commissioned into service with the Russian Navy.

The Dagestan features several improvements versus its predecessor the Tatarstan, the flagship of the Caspian Flotilla.

The Gepard class-frigate of Project 1166.1K Albatros (later renamed Dagestan) is designed to combat underwater, surface and air crafts when performing complex tasks. This is the first Russian warship armed with versatile missile system Kaliber-NK ASM, which is able to use several types of high-precision missiles against surface and shore-based targets at ranges up to 300 km.

Tatarstan-based OJSC Zelenodolsk Shipyard named after M. Gorky, specializes in the construction of warships and passenger high-speed vessels. The enterprise is managed by AK BARS HOLDING.
