Pella Shipyard launches escort tug PE-65 (photo release)

Pella Shipyard has launched the Project 16609 escort tug (Hull No 504) scheduled for delivery in 2013, the shipbuilding company press release said.

The tugboat is designed for towing, canting operations at offshore anchorage and high seas, in harbor waters, for towing ships and offshore installations, escort operations at speed up to 10 knots, for extinguishing fires on floating and onshore facilities, to respond to oil spills, to participate in SAR operation. The ice-class boat is able to sail in the 0.8-m-thick ice at speed up to 5 knots.

General characteristics: length - 34.4 m, breadth - 12.1 m, draft - 4.4 m, speed - 13.5 knots, bollard pull - 63 tons, the boat is classed to KM Arc4 R1 Aut1 FF3WS Escort Tug of RS. Full load displacement - 860 tons.

The boat’s firefighting capabilities include: FFS system of capacity of 1500 m3/h, two jet foam monitors, etc.).

JSC Pella Shipyard based in Russia’s Leningrad region was founded in 1950. In 1992 Pella was privatized as Pella Holding Co. comprising the head office and several subsidiaries. The shipbuilding firm specializes in building harbor tugs with rated power of 1,000-5,000hp, pusher tugs, escort tugs, pilot boats and rescue boats for Russian and foreign customers.
