According to provisional figures, cargo traffic passing through five sea ports of Chukotka during the 2012 navigational period totaled 676,300 tons, which is 0.4% less than during the same period last year, the Chukotka Autonomous District administration press office said.
The ports of Anadyr, Pevek, villages Provideniya, Beringovsky, Egvekinot for 145 days of navigational season (June-early November) saw 296 cargo ships calls.
Interim captain of the sea port of Anadyr Vladimir Fedorov said that in general, the season was successful and the plan of goods deliveries to the northern region has been fulfilled. The plan of oil product and coal shipments to Chukotka has been fulfilled completely.
Chukotka maritime transport infrastructure includes five sea ports located in Anadyr, Pevek and on Bering Island, Provideniya (Providence) and Egvekinot. The seaports are largely handling the cargo intended for indigenous people communities and villages located in the upper reaches of the rivers, as well as shipment of solid fuel and other goods to be exported outside of Chukotka.
