Busan predicts record 17m TEU box volume for 2012
South Korea's port of Busan is projected to handle more than 17m teu of containers this year, with transhipment cargoes estimated to grow as well, Seatrade Asia online reports.
Busan Port Authority (BPA) made the record high box throughput projection after volumes reached 14.2m teu from January to October this year.
The volume of transhipment cargoes is also predicted to grow 10.2% year-on-year to 8.1m teu, according to BPA. In the first 10 months of this year, transhipment volumes grew 11.6% year-on-year to 6.8m teu.
“Transhipment cargo has decreased since June due to the global economic recession. However, thanks to our utmost effort in attracting global shipping companies by offering diverse incentives, the volume of transhipment has jumped remarkably,” BPA said.
