Ust-Luga Yug-2 saw 478 calls in Jan-Oct, 2012
Over the past ten months, 478 cargo ships have docked at berths of Port of Ust-Luga based Multipurpose Handling Terminal "Yug-2», the JSC Ust-Luga press release said.
From November the M/V Sea Connect has been delivering every week to «Yug-2" containerized cargoes from the largest European ports of Rotterdam and Hamburg.
On November 29, Finnlines’ Finnbreeze operating on Lübeck-Ust-Luga service made her first call to Berth No 25 of Yug-2 terminal. The terminal is able to handle Ro-Ro, Con-Ro vessels. The vessel delivered 25 tailers. There are two calls of the Finnlines service scheduled for December.
Multipurpose Terminal Yug-2 is able to handle rolling cargoes, including new imported cars, containers and general cargo. Currently, the terminal handles autos of major Asian carmakers, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, Subaru and Lexus.
Port of Ust-Luga is located nearly on Russia’s border with the EU. The port is implementing a dredging project to deepen to 17.5 meters the harbor area and a 3.7km approach canal. Ust-Luga also expects to have the second approach canal completed by the end of this year. The port will become the only Russian port on the Baltic Sea capable of accommodating 75,000dwt bulkers and 120,000dwt tankers. Today, the port has six fully operating terminals (nine more to be commissioned soon). Overall, there will be 19 terminals commissioned by 2018. In 2010, Ust-Luga port handled 11.8 million tons of cargoes and 65,500 imported vehicles. By 2018, the port’s annual throughput is expected to increase to 180 million tons.
