Ukraine’s Nikolaev port’s cargo volume grows 27.3 percent
Freight flows passing through state-owned Nikolaev Sea Trade Port for the past eleven months rose 27.3% from last year’s figures to 9,847,000 tons, the company report said.
State-owned Nikolaev Sea Trade Port (Port of Mykolayiv) was founded in 1789. The port located at the mouth of the Southern Buh River is connected with the Black Sea by a 44-mile shipping canal. The port is a key transportation hub in Ukraine’s southern region. Nikolayev port specializes in handling general and bulk cargoes, grain, ore, metal, pipes, etc. The port has indoor and outdoor warehouses and operates 15 berths equipped with rail tracks. In 2011, the port handled 8.83 million tons of cargo (+20%), 873 ships and 100,695 railcars.
