Estonian Gov't nixes marine studies of Nord Stream
The Estonian government decided at its Thursday cabinet meeting not to satisfy the application of Nord Stream AG to conduct marine studies in the Estonian economic zone, LETA/Postimees Online reports.
The government decided to agree to the proposal of the foreign ministry to not issue the research permit based on the economic zone law.
The law stipulates that the research can be rejected if the research yields information about the volume of Estonian natural resources and the possibilities of their usage or when the research plan prescribes drilling at the continental shelf, using explosives, throwing harmful substances into the sea or endangers preserving natural resources in any other way.
Nord Stream AG submitted the foreign ministry an application to study the Estonian economic zone on August 22, 2012. The deadline for responding to the application is December 22, 2012.
