DSIC suspends rig construction after Jurong Shipyard accident
Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore has been notified by Friede & Goldman Marketing BV (F&G) to temporarily suspend construction on its rig jacking systems, SinoShipNews reports.
The notice follows a preliminary investigation into the recent accident of an F&G designed jack-up rig that was under construction at Jurong Shipyard in Singapore. The findings suggest that the failure of one of the jacking mechanisms had caused the main hull of the rig to list to one side. DSIC Offshore had started investigations on the jacking systems before receiving the notice from F&G.
Prospector Offshore Drilling, which has four jack-up rigs under construction at DSIC, also announced that it will evaluate the jacking system in the next few weeks and is currently developing alternative solutions to replace any components which might be found non-compliant and minimise any delay to delivery schedules.
