The American Bureau of Shipping gives energy management certificate for Maersk Line Limited
The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has given Maersk Line Limited (MLL) the first ever global certificate for energy management for a shipping line based on the Guide for Marine Health, Safety, Quality, Environmental and Energy (HSQEEn) Management, MLL announced, Ship & Bunker reports.
To achieve the standards, the Norfolk, Virginia headquartered shipper said it had to address energy use and sustainability at all levels of the organisation, reducing energy costs, greenhouse gas emissions, and other environmental impacts.
The requirements for the certification are based on the international standard ISO 50001:2011.
Fellow A.P. Moller - Maersk Group business Maersk Line said earlier this year that it saved 160,000 tonnes of fuel and almost $90 million over three years through better propulsion efficiency thanks to its environmental initiatives.
