Rosmorport’s icebreakers assist shipping in Taganrog Bay
Icebreakers operated by Azov Basin Branch of Federal enterprise Rosmorport from December have commenced icebreaking duties in the Taganrog Bay of the Azov Sea, Rosmorport’s press release said.
From December 15 to 17 the icebreakers have escorted over 40 cargo ships from ice fields to open water. The temperature in the area dropped to 17Cº, with gale force winds of up to 25-30 m/s and ice thickness of 15-20 cm.
Icebreakers the Kapitan Harchikov, the Kama and the Fanagoria together with recently commissioned ice-class tugs Dobrynya and Muromets provide anchorage and maintenance of ships in the ports of Rostov-on-Don, Azov and Taganrog.
Sea-going icebreakers the Kapitan Demidov, the Kapitan Moshkin, the Kapitan Chudinov ensure safe anchorage for vessels in Yelenina spit in the eastern part of the Azov Sea.
