RV Akademik Treshnikov embarks on first Antarctic voyage
The Research Vessel (RV) Academic Treshnikov owned by the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) of the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring of Russia (ROHIDROMET) will set sail on the first Antarctic voyage on December 21, 2012, the Institute press release said.
The voyage is experimental and will be carried out in the framework of surveys and works of the 58th Russian Antarctic Expedition. During the sailing the RV will be undergoing testing of her seaworthiness and ice-class capabilities, onboard scientific and other equipment endurance in the ocean conditions. The expedition team includes 18 experts of Central Research Institute of Krylov that designed the ship, 2 specialists of Admiralteysky Shipyards, one specialist to test electronic management of ship power plant and 28 employees of the 58th RAE.
