Russia starts construction of deep-sea submersible
Russia’s Sevmash shipyard on Thursday officially launched construction work on a Project 09852 deep-sea nuclear powered submersible, RIA Novosti reported.
The new submarine will conduct research and search-and-rescue operations in remote and difficult-to-access parts of the world’s oceans, Sevmash said in a statement.
Designed by the St. Petersburg-based Rubin Central Design Bureau, the submarine will also be involved in monitoring transport routes and testing scientific research equipment.
The shipyard offered no indication of when the project will be completed.
