In January 2009, oil export via the port of Primorsk fell by 2%, year-on-year, to 6.497.6 million tonnes. Primorsk Oil Terminal LLC cut oil export by 8% to 6.108.2 million tonnes. Balttransservis LLC handled 389,400 tonnes of diesel fuel. In the reported period, turnover of vessels in port Primorsk amounted to 159 units.
Commercial seaport Primorsk was put into operation on December 27, 2001 as the final stage of the first phase of Baltic Pipeline System (BPS) aimed at oil transportation from Timano-Pechersk and West-Siberian oil-and-gas provinces as well as from Kazakhstan. Primorsk is the largest port in the North-West region of Russia to export crude and oil products. PBS’s annual capacity as of the date of commissioning was 12 million tonnes.
