Rosneft starts field seismic prospecting and environment studies with its partner Eni in the Barents Sea
Rosneft started field seismic operations at Fedynsky and Central Barents license areas, explored by Rosneft jointly with the project partner Eni, the major Italian oil company.
2D seismic survey is now scheduled along with the on-board gravity and magnetic measurements for 9,950 linear km in two license areas. The data will be collected by geophysical methods from a specialized seismic survey vessel.
Environmental and fishery studies are currently being completed in license areas.
Rosneft executes its exploration program in the Barents Sea in compliance with all environmental requirements of the Russian law and the license agreements. During the seismic survey a program of environmental monitoring and safe operations control will be implemented.
Exploration operations in the Barents Sea are carried out by Rosneft’s subsidiaries RN-Shelf-Arctic and RN-Shelf-Far East in collaboration with Eni, both companies with long time experience of seismic acquisition in harsh conditions maintaining the highest attention to avoid Health, Safety and Environmental related accidents and incidents.
Licenses for geological studies, exploration and hydrocarbons production at Fedynsky and Central Barents blocks were issued to Rosneft on January 26, 2012.
Fedynsky block of 38 thousand sq. km is located in the ice-free part of the Barents Sea. Central Barents block of 16 thousand sq. km borders Fedynsky from the North. Fedynsky and Central Barents blocks were covered by 2D seismic in the previous years, with various promising leads identified.
