Cargo traffic of North-Western Shipping Company up 28% to 3.2 mln t in HI’13

In January-June 2013, cargo traffic of North-Western Shipping Company OJSC gained 28%, year-on-year, to 3.2  mln tm the company says.

Transportation of export cargo climbed by 9.6% to 1.37 mln t, import – by 63% to 0.5 mln t. Cargo traffic between foreign ports made 1.33 mln t (+51%).

In particular, transportation of ferrous metal was up to 749,000 t, construction cargo – to 229,000 t, chemical fertilizers – to 569,000 t, timber cargo – to 229,000 t.

The growth was driven by the launch of new highly efficient vessels. From the beginning of 2013, the entire series of ten DCV36 vessels built in 2011-2012 was deployed for the first time as well as three RSD49 vessels.

(North-Western Shipping Company is the largest carrier in Russia’s water transport system, specializing in shipping import / export general cargo, bulk and loose dry cargo, tugging of oversized cargo and vessels. The company’s fleet comprises about 101 cargo ships of total DWT 350,000 tonnes, including 85 mixed-sailing "river-sea” vessels, 6 barges, 7 tugs and 3 auxiliary ships.
