Throughput of Ust-Luga port (Leningrad region) up 1.5 times to 28.988 mln t in HI’13
In January-June 2013, the port of Ust-Luga (Leningrad region) handled 28,988,200 tonnes of different cargoes (up 1.5 times, year-on-year), says the administration of Big Port St. Petersburg.
Transshipment of dry cargo climbed by 21% to 9,394,600 tonnes, timber cargo – up 29% to 138,300 tonnes.
Transshipment of general cargo fell by 34% to 533,200 tonnes including 269,300 tonnes of ferrous metal (-57%).
In the reported period, the port handled 18,083,500 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (up 1.9 times) including including 6,679,600 tonnes of oil products (+15%).
The port’s container throughput totaled 21,835 TEUs. Besides, it handled 372,900 tonnes of Rо-Rо cargoes.
Ust-Luga port is situated practically at the border of the Russian Federation and the European Union. The deep water area of the port (17.5 m) together with the short seaway canal (3.7 km) make Ust-Luga port the only Russian port on the Baltic Sea capable of admitting dry-cargo vessels with the deadweight of up to 75,000 tonnes and liquid cargo carriers with the deadweight of up to 160,000 tonnes. In 2012, the port’s throughput totaled 46,612,449 tonnes of different cargoes and 167,380 automobiles. With its full capacity the port is expected to handle 180 mln tonnes of cargo.
