Vladimir Putin: Port of Sabetta will create new routes for Russian goods export to the world's market

Development of transport infrastructure is one of Russia's priorities. The country needs major projects, Russian Vladimir Putin said today during live, televised news conference on Russia-24 TV channel.

Asked about North transport corridor, the President agreed that this project will really be a real alternative to the Trans-Siberian Railway and will help create new jobs.

Port of Sabetta is conveniently located for goods exports both to America, Europe and  Asia, I mean opening of the Northern Sea Route. This will definitely relieve the transport arteries, we have spoken about - BAM and the Trans-Siberian Railway, would give our product access to world markets via a new route. This is a very promising direction, we will do everything to support it", Putin was quoted as saying.

Putin noted a cooperation agreement signed between the regional Yamal government and the Russian Transport Ministry.
"The state invests significant resources, billions of rubles, in building the port of Sabetta, primarily in construction of access channels. And this is a good example when public investment keep up with investments of private companies", Putin said adding that private injections sometime go ahead of state investments.

Yamal LNG project includes the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG). The plant will consist of three liquefaction trains with overall capacity of 16.5 million tons per annum. Start of commissioning works at the first liquefaction train is scheduled for 2016 with the planned commercial launch of the first LNG train in 2017. The Project also requires the construction of transport infrastructure including a sea-port facility and an international airport located at Sabetta (north-east of the Yamal Peninsula). Up to 16 ice-class LNG carriers of special ARC-7 design will be used to effect year-round transportation of LNG to international markets.
