Forecasts of an increase in oil products traffic on the Volga-Don Canal may cause congestion in 2014 and ships delay on the shipping channel, a Rosmorrechflot official said.
Deputy interim director of Inland Water Transport Department of Rosmorrechflot Fyodor Shishlakov, who attended a joint meeting of the Board and the Public Council of Rosmorrechflot in Moscow, that 'low water' could make the situation worse and halt the shipping along the canal.
The official recommended shipping operators make the most of the early period of the navigation season on the canal.
Rosmorrechflot's head Alexander Davydenko said one of the options to resolve the situation could be the construction of second branch of the canal channel.
