Ukraine's Prime Minister Mykola Azarov steps down
Ukrainian government Prime Minister Mykola Azarov on January 28, 2014 sent in a letter of resignation, the government official website said.
In his statement Mr. Azarov explained his decision by the need to preserve the unity and integrity of the country in the current situation.
"Today, the most important thing is to preserve the unity and integrity of Ukraine. It is much more important than someone's personal plans or ambitions. In order to create additional opportunities for social and political compromise for the sake of a peaceful settlement of the conflict, I took a personal decision to ask the President of Ukraine to accept my resignation from the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine", Azarov said in a statement.
According to the Constitution of Ukraine, the resignation of Prime Minister and the entire government should be signed by the country's president. Then the resigned government is charged by the president to continue (up to 60 days) to fulfill their service until the new Cabinet is formed.
Resignation of Mykola Azarov's government was one of the main demands of the opposition in talks with the authorities to resolve the political crisis in Ukraine.
