Throughput of Russian seaports up 3.9% to 92 mln t in Jan-Feb'14

In January-February 2014, Russian seaports handled 92 mln t of cargo (+3.9%, year-on-year), says press center of Association of Commercial Sea Ports.

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo hit 39.3 mln t (+9.6%) including 16.2 mln t of coal (+15.2%), 7.1 mln t of containerized cargo (+7.7%), 2.8 mln t of grain (up 3.9 times), 2.0 mln t of mineral fertilizers (+8.7%), 1.0 mln t of cargoes carried by ferries (+5.4%) and 0.6 mln t of metal scrap (+24.8%). Transshipment of ferrous metal fell to 4.1 mln t (-3.4%), ore – to 0.9 mln t (-23.6%), timber – to 0.7 mln t (-1.1%). 

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo remained steady at 52.7 mln t (-0.1%) including 30.9 mln t of crude (-5.6%), 19.1 mln t of oil products (+9.3%) and 2.1 mln t of liquefied gas (+5.0%).

Transshipment of export cargo hit 74.2 mln t (+5.0%, year-on-year), import – 6.1 mln t (-11.4%), transit - 8.1 mln t (+21.5%), coastal trade cargo – 3.6 mln t (-17.1%).

Operators of the Arctic Basin handled 5.5 mln t (-23.9%) including 4.0 mln t of dry cargo (+5.4%) and 1.5 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (down 2.2 times). The port of Murmansk handled 3.8 mln t (-19.9%), port Arkhangelsk - 0.6 mln t (-20.3%), Varandey - 1.0 mln t (+18.4%). 

The ports of the Baltic Basin handled 33.6 mln t of cargo (+3.0%) including 12.7 mln t of dry cargo (+7.8%) and 20.9 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+0.2%). Port Ust-Luga handled 10.9 mln t of cargo (+29.7%), Big Port St. Petersburg - 8.8 mln t (+10.2%), Vysotsk - 2.5 mln t (+1.8%), Primorsk - 9.2 mln t (-17.8%), Kaliningrad - 2.1 mln t (-16.1%).  

Throughput of Azov - Black Sea ports climbed to 27.5 mln t (+5.1%, year-on-year) including 8.7 mln t of dry cargo (+5.1%) and 18.8 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+5.0%). Port Novorossiysk handled 19.2 mln t (+4.1%), Tuapse - 3.2 mln t (+24.0%), Taman - 2.0 mln t (up 2.1 times), Yeisk - 0.3 mln t (+2.2%), Rostov - 1.1 mln t (-8.5%), Kavkaz - 0.7 mln t (-25.6%), Taganrog - 0.3 mln t (-28.6%).

The ports of the Caspian Basin handled 1.1 mln t of cargo (-15.2%) including 0.4 mln t of dry cargo (-31.5%) and 0.7 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-4.1%). Throughput of Makhachkala lost 3.1%, Astrakhan - 35.9%, Olya - 43.9%.

Seaports of the Far East Basin handled 24.3 mln t of cargo (+14.5%) including 13.6 mln t of dry cargo (+17.9%) and 10.7 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+10.4%). Port Vostochny handled 8.8 mln t (+14.4%), Vanino - 3.7 mln t (+21.2%), Nakhodka - 3.2 mln t (+21.5%), Vladivostok - 2.3 mln t (+8.8%), De-Castri - 1.2 mln t (+30.2%), Prigorodnoye - 2.8 mln t (-3.1%). 

Association of Commercial Sea Ports (ASOP) set up in 1987 unites over 50 organizations and enterprises of Russia’s maritime transport. ASOP comprises commercial seaports, forwarding and agency companies, scientific research institutes and marine educational institutions. Operational results of Russian port sector are based on statistics reports and cover all stevedoring companies operating in the Russian Federation.
