A tank containers conference session on day 2 of Intermodal Asia-2014 will be presented by Mike Duan, Marketing Director of EXSIF China (a board member company of @TCO / Asian Tank Container Organisation), in the Innovation Theatre, the event organizer Informa Exhibitions said in a recent press release.
“The conference session will demonstrate the benefits of the tank container versus the 45 gallon drum, as a more cost effective and environmentally friendly method for transporting liquids in Asia,” explains Mike Duan. “The audience we would like to see at this conference session would be the end users –receivers, shippers and chemical companies. We hope the audience will attend because they believe that the tank container offers a new cost effective transportation option in the Asian market and to gather important information that can be passed back for the benefit of their companies.”
@TCO’s main objective is to promote the expansion and use of tank containers in the Asian region in an environmentally friendly and safe manner. The organisation has become involved in Intermodal Asia 2014 to present new content to the industry and share information about issues faced today within the tank container industry.
Safety, for instance, can be of particular concern during the cleaning, or handling of, tank containers. “A number of fatal accidents have occurred in the Asian tank container industry and all of them could have been avoided” adds Mike Duan.
Since @TCO was founded in 2011 the organisation has introduced a Depot Audit Scheme, to assist depots in meeting safety standards, and thereby helping chemical companies to select a partner to work with. @tco polices depots using independent surveyors who are not affiliated with the box container business.
“Companies in the chemicals industry need access to companies that have been approved and meet European standards,” explains Reg Lee, President of @tco. “What is important to @tco is our focus on Asia. Often, when tank container issues have been resolved in Europe, people are not aware that these same problems still exist today in Asia.”
Ken Tsang, China Advisor, Responsible Care of the Global Chemical Industry’ model are Pollution Prevention and Occupational Health and Safety,” explains Ken Tsang. “Most of the incidents involved in intermodal transportation could have the potential to create an environmental incident or involve injury of workers. With implementation of Responsible Care, both the environmental and safety incidents have been reduced in the past 10 years.”
The Responsible Care Model has been recognised by the United Nations. “The transportation industry could pay more attention to the environmental protection and workers' health and safety in order to enhance the image of intermodal transport globally” adds Ken Tsang. “The audience for this session will include people who care about the sustainability of intermodal activities and who would like to create a good image for the industry.”
“We need a professional event like Intermodal Asia in the industry, with strong, new content, high profile speakers and a high quality audience” adds Reg Lee.
Conference sessions at Intermodal Asia 2014 will be held in Mandarin and English. An exhibition with hundreds of high profile exhibitors will run alongside the conferences sessions.
