First Arctic cruise from Murmansk region scheduled for July 2015
The first cruise to the Arctic from the Murmansk region is scheduled for July 2015, says the press center of the regional government. M/V Klavdiya Yelanskaya of Murmansk Shipping Company OJSC will perform the voyage.
The first meeting of the working group on the development of the interregional Arctic tourism product has been held recently. It was dedicated to the following route: Murmansk- Frantz Josef Land Archipelago – Novaya Zemlya Archipelago – Solovetsky Archipelago – Arkhangelsk. The meeting was attended by the representatives of Murmansk and Arkhangelsk executive authorities in the sphere of tourism, Murmansk Transport Ministry, Murmansk Shipping Company OJSC, national park “Russian Arctic” as well as tour operators interested in the development and promotion of the Arctic cruise tourism product.
The working group has discussed all possible variants of the cruise route and mechanisms to reduce the cost of the tourism product, charter terms, sightseeing programme etc. By the end of the current year it should consider the possibility of attracting federal and off-budget resources for implementation of the pilot cruise project, evaluate the potential demand for the proposed route and discuss other aspects of the cruise.
