Steel cutting for Wallenius post-panamax vessels is scheduled to 16th of June 2014
In less than two months, the new site office in Tianjin. China, where Wallenius new post-panamax vessels will be built, will open. Steel cutting of the first vessel is scheduled to 16th of June 2014 and the following vessels will be built with five months in between. First delivery is planned to October 2015 and the last and fourth for in the end of 2016, the company said in its press release.
Visually the most striking difference from earlier generations of PCTCs and LCTCs is, apart from the 4.3 m larger post-panamax beam, its vertical bow designed to give better performance in waves than conventional bulbous bow-designs.
The accommodation is a one-tier design in order to obtain a low wind profile. The wheelhouse, navigation equipment and layout will be similar to previous designs.
On the engine and propulsion side, as in the whole project, Wallenius is aiming for lowest possible fuel consumption. Examples of that are the integrated propeller and rudder design with a bulb on the rudder for higher efficiency and a new type of shaft generator of permanent magnet-type with higher efficiency.
