Lamprell delivers its largest offshore platform for use in the North Sea

Lamprell, a leading provider of diversified engineering and contracting services to the onshore and offshore energy industry, announces completion and delivery of a PUQ deck for the Golden Eagle Area Development (GEAD) in the North Sea to its client, Nexen Petroleum U.K. Limited and its GEAD co - venturers, on schedule and on budget, the company said in its press release.

GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS has confirmed that Lamprell’s delivery of the offshore platform is the ‘ Heaviest load moved by self - propelled modular trailers (SPMTs)’, mea sured at 13, 191.98 tonnes. ALE was the transport provider. This beats the previous record which was achieved by Almajdouie Logistics Company (Saudi Arabia) on 22 January 2012 and weighed 4,891 tonnes (5,391.4 tons).

UAE Guinness World Records adjudicator Samer Khallouf presented Lamprell CEO Jim Moffat with the official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS certificate at an event held in Dubai on 22 April. Although the Company have loaded out similar structures in the past, this is the largest offshore plat form officially recognised and constructed by Lamprell, t he total weight of the platform including the grillage, temporaries and SPMTs is 15,511 tonnes. The dimensions of the PUQ deck measure 98.5 metres by 46 metres by 58.8 metres (length x width x height ) and a total fleet of 512 axels on self - propelled modular trailers (SPMTs) were used to perform the load - out. In 2011 Nexen contracted Lamprell to build two decks for the GEAD project a £2 billion investment 70 kilometres offshore Aberdeen in the North Sea.

The wellhead deck was delivered in June last year and has already been installed. Completion and delivery of this second structure was marked at a ceremony held in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, on 17 April . The project teams from Nexen and Lamprell have worked closely to make this project a success. With the completion and sail away of the PUQ deck, the team has completed 10 million man - hours without a lost time incident on the combined wellhead and PUQ deck projects. This new safety record for Lamprell is truly a world class achievement. The delivered platform was fully commissioned by Nexen with round the clock support from Lamprell, in order to facilitate our clients’ installation schedule.

The PUQ deck departed from the Jebel Ali facility on 17 April and is currently en route to its final destination in the North Sea. This is the sixth offshore fixed topside that Lamprell has delivered in four years. Commenting on the delivery, James Moffat, Chief Executive Officer for the Lamprell group, said: “I am pleased to announce the completion and delivery of the second GEAD deck to Nexen, on time and within budget, to world class standards of safety and quality. The delivery of this latest offshore structu re highlights Lamprell’s growing reputation in the new build offshore construction market and confirms our position as one of the few yards in the MENA region that has both the expertise and the capability to build large scale complex North Sea projects. Delivery to such high standards would not have been possible without the close teamwork and strong relationship between the Lamprell and Nexen project management teams. I would like to thank both teams for the skills and dedication that they have demons trated to complete this project so successfully.”
