Krylov State Research Center presents ice and offshore basins at SMM (photo)

Krylov State Research Center has presented the projects for its ice and offshore testing basins at SMM Fair, IAA PortNews journalist reports. According to Vyacheslav Magarovsky, head of the Center’s Marine Hydrodynamics Division, ice basin is being prepared for first tests while the offshore basin will start operation in 2016. 
 
The offshore basin will considerably extend the potential of the existing test base of the Krylov Center as it will have a lifting bottom and 6 flow lines to model any weather conditions. It will be equipped with a wave and wind generator. The basin will consist of two parts. The offshore part will have the following dimensions 53 m x 44.5 m x 20 m.
 
The ice basin will let create a 80 meter long and 10 meter wide ice field. It will be fitted with a deepwater section for testing of moored offshore platforms.
