  MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company announces ECA Charge from the 1st of January 2015

  

  Arising from new rules and regulations affecting the amount of sulphur to be used in fuel which will come into force from 1st January 2015 in the Emission Control Areas (ECA) in North Europe (including the Baltic Sea, North Sea and English Channel) and North America (including 200 nautical miles from the American and Canadian shores), the cost of fuel in these ECA areas will increase significantly, the company said in its press release.

  In order to recover this increase in fuel costs, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. will be compelled to apply an ECA charge from the 1st of January 2015.
