Cruiser Aurora left Saint-Petersburg for repair in Kronshtadt (photo)
The historical ship Aurora has left her place at Petrovskaya embankment in Saint-Petersburg for a dock repair in Kronshtadt, says the press center of Saint-Petersburg State Naval Engineering University the students and personnel of which gathered at the embankment to greet the cruiser.
When the museum ship was passing the drawn spans of the Palace Bridge the students and the citizens were singing the hymn of Saint-Petersburg and the song dedicated to the Aurora.
Severnaya Verf will restore and repair the ship according to the project of the Severnoye Design Bureau. Both companies have the graduates of Saint-Petersburg State Naval Engineering University among their employees.
Cruiser Aurora was laid down in September 1896 and floated out in May 1900. Her length is 126.8 m, beam 16.8 m and draught – 6.4 m. The ship could move with the speed of up to 19.2 knots, her cruising range was about 4,000 miles. Whe Aurora joined Russia’s Navy her armament included eight 152 mm guns, twenty four 75 mm guns, eight 37 mm guns and two 63.5 mm guns. Besides, the ship had three torpedo tubes (381 mm).
The towing operation was performed by PORT FLEET CJSC.
