On 1 October 2013, the HHLA subsidiary Metrans Rail (Deutschland) began shunting its own Metrans trains, which are marketed in Germany and Switzerland, at the Port of Hamburg, the company said in its press release. “We wanted to manage this part of our transport chain, too, so that we can provide our customers with even greater reliability,” explains Roger Mahler, Managing Director of Metrans Rail (Deutschland). He now also offers services to other companies when there are free capacities. Metrans Rail shunts trains at the Port of Hamburg that carry materials such as mineral oil, building materials and cereals. “Our customers value our good communication and adherence to delivery times, as these factors are absolutely crucial both at the port and on the journey from A to B,” says Mahler, detailing the secret of the young company’s success. Metrans Rail performs its shunting operations using recently modernised diesel locomotives, among others. These bear the names of some of the places that Metrans travels to.
