On October 4, 2014, Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping (Saint-Petersburg) held a ceremony welcoming new cadets and students, the University press center says.
The event included the ceremonial parade of the freshmen watching the bringing of the flags of Russia and the University to the parade ground of the Strelna campus, the closest to the Gulf of Finland.
The ceremony was attended by RF Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov, deputy head of Rosmorrechflot Konstantin Stasyuk, head of FSBI Baltic Sea Ports Authority Peotr Parinov , RS Director General Sergei Sedov, University Rector Sergei Baryshnikov etc.
The freshmen swore an oath and received their cadet/student documents.
Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping was set up through reorganization of two large industry-focused higher educational institutions - St.-Petersburg State University of Waterway Communications (SPSUWC) and Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy (SMA) in the form of affiliation of the Academy to the University.
