Transshipment of Russian cargoes via national seaports up 6.4% to 412.4 mln t in Jan-Aug’14, CNIIMF says (photo)

In January-August 2014, transshipment of Russian cargoes via national seaports increased by 6.4%, year-on-year, to 412.4 mln t, Sergei Buyanov, Director General of CNIIMF (Central Marine Resarch and Design Institute) said at the Forth International Conference on Ports and Shipping Development held in Saint-Petersburg on October 1-3.

The share of neighbor countries (Baltic states and Ukraine) in total transportation of foreign trade cargo decreased by one half (to 13.3%).

According to the forecasts, transshipment of Russian cargoes via national seaports will total 618-620 mln t this year.

Sergei Buyanov also said that the share of foreign ports in the structure of Russia’s foreign trade flow via seaports is to decrease by that time to 5% under Rosmorport’s Strategy for Russia’s Port Infrastructure Development through 2030.

However he says that unstable political situation in Ukraine and tariff disputes with the Baltic states’ ports dictate the necessity to ensure reserve facilities in Russia.
