Further development of Lithuanian-Belarusian cooperation in the field of transport

International Conference “Belarusian-Lithuanian cooperation in transport and logistics: the present and prospects” has been held in Minsk, Lithuania’s Ministry of Transport and Communications says.

“Without any shadow of doubts, this conference is important for the development of Lithuanian-Belarusian cooperation in the field of transport. I am convinced that this event, important for both countries, will serve as the main motivation to collaborate and achieve common objectives and goals,” said Rimantas Sinkevicius, the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania.

At the conference, government and business representatives discussed ways to increase the transport sector competitiveness of the two neighboring countries, as well as deliberated on modern transport and logistics solutions and further development of bilateral cooperation. Insights on the development in logistics and transport technology in Lithuania and Belarus were also discussed in the conference.

“Successful implementation of such projects as container train Viking and container trainNemunas provides a substantial number of answers necessary for the further development of infrastructure, the use of technical and electronic instruments, increased efficiency at border crossings and transit,” said Minister Rimantas Sinkevicius. “I also do think that the constructive and successful collaboration between Lithuania and Belarus will be further influenced by successful Klaipeda Seaport performance in handling the Belarusian cargo flows” he added.

Lithuania supports the development of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) aiming to connect Eurasian transport projects within the framework of common regional cooperation policy. A suitable infrastructure project funding and coordination, as well as removed constrains on international freight forwarding are considered the necessary means to achieve the TEN-T goal.

International conference on Belarusian-Lithuanian cooperation in transport and logistics started the Belarusian Transport week and opened the international Transport and Logistics and Engineering of Logistics exhibitions.
