Navis implements Navis N4 terminal operating system at Modern Terminals Limited in Hong Kong

Navis announced the successful implementation of the Navis N4 terminal operating system (TOS) at Modern Terminals Limited (MTL) in Kwai Tsing Container Port, Hong Kong, the company said in its press release.

The TOS go-live is the culmination of two years of collaboration and the successful implementation highlights MTL’s mission of serving as the preferred world-class terminal and supply chain services company.

MTL is a leading container terminal operator in Hong Kong that handles approximately 5.5 million TEUs annually. The facility is world-class and environmentally-friendly, with 101 electricity-powered rubber-tyred gantry cranes (E-RTG), 30 quay cranes and a total area of 228.75 acres. The terminal has an ever-growing need for high-productivity services combined with the ability to connect between multi-shipping line consortiums operating at Hong Kong’s multiple terminal facilities.

MTL’s decades-old legacy TOS had approached its system capacity limit. By moving to N4, MTL’s operation is running on a modern and maintainable technology infrastructure adhering to international standards and supporting MTL’s long-term growth.

“From our experience with the Da Chan Bay Terminal One implementation, we knew that Navis would provide the collaboration and support we needed to tackle this much larger and complex implementation,” said Anders Dommestrup, COO, MTL. “The go-live was possible due to the hard work and dedication of the joint Modern Terminals and Navis teams, who have been working closely on the ground in Hong Kong for the past two years, and will continue to do so as MTL continues enhancing productivity and efficiency to benefit our customers and the wider port community in Hong Kong.”

The N4 implementation is part of MTL’s New Horizon Project, which began in August 2012. Following the successful N4 go-live at its Da Chan Bay Terminal One in 2013, and now, in Hong Kong, MTL has demonstrated its ongoing commitment to continuous improvement for its customers, shareholders, employees, community and environment at large.

“This project embodies all that we hope to achieve together with our customers: collaboration, trust and a joint commitment to tackling inevitable industry challenges together. MTL’s continued investment in cutting-edge terminal technology will position them to meet future demands in the market. We thank MTL for trusting Navis to help them with this complex implementation project,” said Bill Walsh, President and CEO, Navis.

Navis N4, now live at more than 100 sites globally, is a sophisticated and modern technology platform that optimizes terminal operational efficiency and powers the intelligent movement of goods through container terminals worldwide.
