Mikhail Nenashev: SV Sibiryakov of Baltic Fleet did not violate the borders of Portugal
Hydrographic survey vessel of the Baltic Fleet “Sibiryakov” did not violate the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Portugal, Mikhail Nenashev, chairman of the All-Russian Movement for Fleet Support said.
Commenting the statement of Portugal authorities over alleged violation of the country's boundary by the Russian survey ship Nenashev said that bears little relation to reality, and has been dictated by the military department's desire to increase allocations to its budget.
Earlier, Defense Minister of Portugal José Pedro Aguiar-Branco stated that a patrol ship of the Navy on November 5, 2014 intercepted a Russian survey ship that had entered the waters of the exclusive economic zone of the country.
Mr. Nenashev, SV "Sibiryakov" noted that the survey vessel was far from the country's territorial waters and was following the international shipping lane, “which has been used by our fleet for several centuries, and, accordingly, could not violate the country's border”.
