Balakovo Shipyard holds launching of dry bulk carrier "Yediniy"
A Vega Shipping Company shipbuilding division, Balakovo, Russia based Balakovskiy Shipyard on November 8, 2014 held a launching ceremony for a dry bulk carrier "Yediniy", the first such type vessel built at the shipyard in a 30-year period, the Saratov region governor's press office said.
The bulker was ordered by two customers: the shipyard's parent company Vega Shipping Co. headquartered in Volzhsky, Russia and a businessman Evgeniy Yediniy.
Sea trials and delivery of the vessel is scheduled for 2015.
Balakovsky Shipyard founded in 1918 was one of the largest enterprises in the Volga basin. Until the mid-1980s, the company was building Project P-125 barges and Reidovy class tugs. Since September 2010, the company has been part JSC Vega Shipping Company. Since 2013 the shipyard has been specializing in a new segment: river and sea-going vessels and is heavily investing in its facilities upgrade.
